October 14 - Sunday Assembly

Please note the new start time: 11am! Arrive early to guarantee your seat!

The Case for CRISPR:

Join us for an Assembly packed with science and wonder, as educator, author and Byte of Science speaker Katie McKissick discusses the practical applications and ethical considerations of human gene editing.

Featuring musical guests Hunter and the Dirty Jacks, the comedic stylings of Ryan Trout, and hosts Meredith and Sam!

We are back at The Backstage, the same stage used by Comedy Central since 2013, at The Hudson Theatres. Street parking is available and unmetered on Sundays, and for your convenience, valet will be onsite to assist you for a small charge.

This month we are collecting gently used clothing for Safe Place for Youth, and we're beginning to accept new, unwrapped gifts for the families our community will adopt for this year's Giving Tree. Much needed items include: children's books, games, grocery and clothing gift cards, bedding, stocking stuffers and school supplies.

Join us pre-Assembly for coffee, bagels or muffins in the Lobby Cafe! After the Assembly, a lot of us will brunch at Spoonfed. Spoonfed, walking distance for The Hudson Theatres, has lots of options to accommodate most any diet. The most recent add to this menu is a Sunday Assembly signature cocktail, the Double Helix!

Everyone is welcome. Free street parking or valet will be onsite as well for a small charge. As always, SALA is free to attend, and childcare is complimentary. Donations gratefully accepted.

Sunday Assembly is a volunteer-driven non-profit entirely funded by attendee donations. If you'd like to see SALA continue to develop positive secular community, please consider becoming a sustaining member: sundayassemblyla.org/monthly

--------

We could always use more volunteer helpers, starting at 9am. to set up signs, greet attendees, brew coffee and load out after the event, let us know if you can be on the team this month!

Want to sing your heart out from the other side of the stage? The Wonder-more Warblers is a for-fun choir that meets at 10:30am on the day-of to run through the songs. Sometimes we even have a rehearsal with the band before the day! Sign up here to learn more.

There's a TON that goes into driving a thriving community--planning committees, event hosts, blog writers, social media posters, video editors and maybe something you're into that we haven't even thought of yet. If you'd like to be a part of the (figurative) magic of managing a science-based community, let us know!
