Reading to Kids
PROJECT: Reading to Kids is dedicated to inspiring under-served children with a love of reading. At seven elementary schools in downtown Los Angeles volunteers read aloud to children and create arts and crafts projects about the stories. Each child receives a book to take home and the books read aloud are donated to the school's library. Reading aloud to children imparts a love of books that leads to improved literacy, a more successful education, and a brighter future.
The reading clubs are always held on the second Saturday of every month from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Before your first session, please complete the short online application at readingtokids.org. You then get to choose the school at which you would like to read, and please encourage your members to also select "Sunday Assembly" as their volunteer group affiliation. We're encouraging Sunday Assemblers to join forces at Magnolia Elementary school, but please feel free to RSVP for any location you like.
