Serve a Meal at SPY

SALA Help Often team at SPY

Calling all SALAmanders!

One of SALA's favorite charity partners, Safe Place for Youth, provides vital support to youth experiencing homelessness, was a vital part of our efforts to help often in the community last year. We've been able to serve hot meals to their over 80 youth clients with a smile and we're excited to do this again this year.

We'll purchase, prepare and serve dinner on Wed, Jan 30th. We'll need help shopping, chopping and cooking from 11am on at Amy's and Michael's kitchen in Venice. Then, at 3pm, we'll move down the block to Safe Place, which has requested 8 volunteers to help serve lunch to about 75 clients.

Wednesday's dinner is sponsored by Jeff Sargeant with a grocery card donation of $200. If anyone can't be there in person but would like to help with a donation. One meal to serve 75 costs $200-400, and every little bit counts. We can always do more with more, and our goal is to be able to serve a meal at SPY once per month. You can Paypal to [email protected] and include the note "SPY" or mail to: Sunday Assembly LA, 723 Angelus Place, Venice 90291. If you're using snail-mail and want your donation to apply to a specific day's meal, please email us to let us know so we can budget for the day accordingly.

Thank you for your help! SPY relies on sponsored meals to keep getting vital services to at-risk youth, and we appreciate your help in reaching those in need among this vulnerable population.

About SPY

Safe Place for Youth provides a safe environment away from the challenges posed by the streets. Our Drop-In services are available on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 1:00 – 5:00 PM and Monday and Friday by appointment for youth to access life-saving support and critical resources. Healthy meals, showers and clothing help meet their basic survival needs. Once basic needs are met, youth are able to consider the positive sense of community and the opportunities available to rebuild their lives. The Drop-In Center is also where youth access case management, housing assistance, health and wellness care, education and employment support, counseling, healing arts workshops, access to phone, internet and mail services, legal assistance and bus tokens.
