On July 4, 2012, hundreds of physicists gathered at CERN, the European physics research facility, and were joined by thousands more online for the announcement of a major discovery: solid evidence for a new elementary particle known as the Higgs boson (and oftentimes referred to unfortunately as "the God particle").

At the Large Hadron Collider, a 27 km. circular particle accelerator and collider that lies 300 feet underground and straddles the border of Switzerland and France, two teams of physicists working independently had both confirmed evidence of a particle first theorized in 1964 that represents one of the last fundamental building blocks in the Standard Model of particle physics, that is, our basic understanding of matter and forces.  It was the culmination of many years' work by thousands of theorists, engineers, experimental physicists, at a cost of billions of dollars, that left physicist Peter Higgs, then age 83, and the rest of the physics world dumb-struck with awe.

"Particle Fever" is a new documentary film that tells the story of this triumph of 21st century science in the human quest to understand the Universe.  You can watch the trailer on YouTube HERE and check out the website for the film HERE.
