Serve a Meal at SPY

Calling all SALAmanders!

Sunday Assembly LA is sponsoring a meal at Safe Place for Youth, which provides vital support to youth experiencing homelessness.

We'll purchase, prepare and serve lunch during one of their Drop-in days. They've requested 8 volunteers to help serve lunch to about 75 clients.

If a couple people are available to help with shopping and meal preparation a bit earlier, that would be a huge help. My house is a couple blocks from SPY, so we can use my kitchen to heat vegetarian and carnivore lasagna, salad and dinner rolls, then bring it to SPY at 12:30 for the 1pm lunch.

Thanks to a generous Assembler (thank you, Jeff!), we have a $200 Ralph's card for the meal for 75.

Incidentally, we aren't bound to this menu. If anyone is feeling ambitious and would like to prepare something fancier than frozen lasagna, please reach out! My oven, gourmet toaster oven and kitchen are at your disposal.

Likewise, if anyone can't be there in person but would like to help with a cash donation, you can Paypal to [email protected] and include the note "SPY" or mail to: Sunday Assembly LA, 12575 Beatrice St., LA, CA 90066. If you're using snail-mail, please email us to let us know so we can budget for the day accordingly.

Thank you for your help! SPY relies on sponsored meals to keep getting vital services to at-risk youth. We're hopeful that this Thursday will be a tremendous success and we'll be able to make serving meals to homeless youth through SPY a regular SALA volunteer opportunity.

Sincerely,

Amy Boyle,

Director Sunday Assembly LA

About SPY

Safe Place for Youth provides a safe environment away from the challenges posed by the streets. Our Drop-In services are available on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 1:00 – 5:00 PM and Monday and Friday by appointment for youth to access life-saving support and critical resources. Healthy meals, showers and clothing help meet their basic survival needs. Once basic needs are met, youth are able to consider the positive sense of community and the opportunities available to rebuild their lives. The Drop-In Center is also where youth access case management, housing assistance, health and wellness care, education and employment support, counseling, healing arts workshops, access to phone, internet and mail services, legal assistance and bus tokens.
