Let's Read

Tutor kids in reading, math and other subjects. 10 week program every Saturday morning.

"Let's Read is one of L.A. Works' long-time signature volunteer programs that helps kids improve their literacy levels along with providing support in other subject areas as needed to children with limited access to educational resources."

This will be the fifth 10-week session that Sunday Assembly has worked with Let's Read! It's not all reading--we help with whatever subjects the students need, and there is also a group activity that is a great chance to engage with kids on less academic topics and teamwork. (Think: cool hands-on science projects you can invent and demonstrate!)

We have a small but dedicated core of volunteers who show up to Let's Read every week, but we've helped to start a virtuous cycle: since the program now was more tutors, more kids are showing up ... which means we need more tutors! 18 years and up only. No experience is necessary.

From the director of Let's Read:

"You and your group [Sunday Assembly] saved Lets Read-- we were so short of volunteers for so long before you [...] came to our rescue. But with all the kids who have been coming we're in sore need of more tutors!"

Note: If it's your first time, just RSVP here. Afterwards they require a background check (costs $25 after LA Work's subsidy) to make sure we're all on the up-and-up.
